Quick answer
LakeMotorCheck answers one question: what motor rules apply on a specific U.S. lake. We currently cover 142 lakes across 13 states. Every page summarizes an official regulation, names the agency behind it, links the source document, and shows the date we last verified it. We are a summary of the official rules — never a replacement for them.
Why this site exists
The answer to "can I run my motor there?" exists for almost every restricted lake in America — but it lives in the worst formats the internet has to offer: decade-old DNR PDFs, township-level administrative codes, prose lists buried in fishing commission regulations, and forest-order scans. Boaters end up guessing at the ramp, and guessing wrong costs a citation or a wasted trip.
We normalize those documents into one consistent page per lake: a verdict card for gas, electric, and PWC; the exact restriction; who sets it; and the live link to the document that says so.
How verification works
A lake gets a page here only when we have read its rule in an official source — a statute, an administrative code section, an agency PDF, or the managing agency's own web page. Each row in our database stores that source URL, the document type, and a last verified date, all of which are printed on the page. When a source moves or dies, the page is flagged "under re-verification" and removed from search indexing until we re-confirm it. Lakes we cannot confirm never appear at all: an honest 70-lake database beats a speculative 700-lake one.
What we are not
We are not a government agency, we are not affiliated with any regulator we cite, and nothing here is legal advice. Rules change and local ordinances add restrictions faster than any database can track — which is why every lake page ends with the same instruction: confirm with the managing agency before you launch.
